1st day at work (6.06.2011). Getting to know with the place, starting to prepare for the exhibition of Karelian costumes.

That day I have got to know the place better. My manager Petra showed me and my collegue Arttu the place, we have got to know the rules of working in Taitokortteli and people working there. Later on we started helping to prepare for an exhibition of Karelian national costumes which included mainly ironing them and arranging them on manikins.

2nd day at work (7.06.2011) Cleaning, helping to finish prepearing for an exhibition

That day we were finishing prepearing the places and artefacts for the display. We finished ironing costumes which we had in our disposal and dressing manikins. That day we also finished cleaning the places making them ready for visitors and arranging stuff in the way that they create good composition and are good for an eye. Later on I have got a task of starting  thinking and creating the design for mainly Russian customers which is mainly about textile design. The project is to create beautiful items which would remind old-fashioned houseware such as aprons and towels with traditional ornaments but, however with modern  impact, which could become trendy again and attractive for customers (especially Russian as my work was working towards attracting Russian auditory). Hence, national Karelian and Russian ornaments and styles redesigned in  a new way is my piece of bread at the moment.

For collecting information I have visited Joensuu City Library and have taken a book about Russian textile design in hope to get inspired by colorful beautiful prints and to come up with something good-looking (great).  I am also going to bring some books from Russia, so my knowledge about the topic I am exploring at the moment wil be more complete.

3rd day at work in Taitokortelli (8.06.2011). Looking for inspiration

Today I was  going through design web sites displaying the works of different artists and designers. I was very impressed by the amount of amazing designs, and the quality of work they displayed. It was a little bit different to choose favorite due to the fact that many of them were fair enough and i have not got a strong idea in the head about my future designs, hence trying to find the style and ideas I like most and trying to combine them altogether. I should also consider the colors and details of future designs. So, the whole day for devoted to getting inspiration and find my own ideas.

4th day at work (9.06.2011) Designing for Russian tourists, Russian motifs, ornaments (textile)

Hello dear blog!

Recently I started working in Taintokortelli as a practical trainer. I am ought to do diverse work which I will  be describing here in order to memorize.

Today I am starting categorizing the impressions I have got yesterday from looking through the pictures of different national motiffs, Karelian and Russian ornaments, Russian dolls and other pictures which influenced me on creating certain design which I am going to do today. I am ready to go through the pictures I have saved on my computer in hope to summarize it and make something considerable.

I will try to implement that until midday and show Petra my sketches. When I get her comments about my ideas, I can change them, improve of completely erase and start from the begining.

At the moment I do not exactly know what I will get at the end, however, hope for some good results.
